Get Involved In Landcare

This How-to is intended for: Public users

Why join Landcare? People get involved for many different reasons

If you're a farmer you can improve productivity on your land while looking after soil health and tackling weeds and pests.  Lots of farmers say forging new friendships and learning from other farmers is another benefit of being involved in Landcare, especially if you've just moved into a new area, or you're new at farming.

If you don't have a farm, but you want to be part of Landcare, there are plenty of ways to be involved.  For those of you who like to get your hands dirty, events like tree-planting days and weekends are lots of fun, and you can make firm friendships while doing something practical for the environment.  And if you'd rather keep your hands clean, there are plenty of support roles that need volunteers to fill them.

If you have special skills and would like to contribute to supporting a community group or the environment, Landcare groups can use a wide range of skills to assist their projects and operations. These can include (but are not limited to);

  • Organising events
  • Writing or editing newsletters
  • Writing news articles or media releases
  • Help with funding administration - audits, book keeping, reporting
  • Providing training on accounts, software, governance...
  • Share your knowledge as a guest speaker to group events
  • Mapping works or planned projects
  • Anything else that voluntary community groups need.....

To get involved in an upcoming activity, go to the Events Calendar and see what's happening and register your interest.

If you want to see if there's a group or network in your local area, check out the Landcare map and you'll find the contact details for your local Landcarers.

If you would like to volunteer your skills to assist a group or its members, and cannot find the contact you want, fill out the Contact form.  We will try to get the information you need as soon as possible.
